About the position

The Water Lab Technician is responsible for accepting, processing, and analyzing water samples for microbiological contaminants, ensuring compliance with federal EPA guidelines and TNI rules. This role is essential during public health emergencies and local disasters, requiring flexibility in hours and responsibilities. The technician will work primarily in a lab environment, conducting tests, maintaining equipment, and preparing reports while adhering to quality control standards.

Responsibilities

• Receives, processes, and analyzes water samples for contaminants.
• Tests samples for excessive chlorine and reports results.
• Prepares reports for submission via mail, fax, or email.
• Conducts microbiological analyses including fecal coliform and E. coli testing.
• Maintains quality control on lab equipment and media.
• Logs samples into the water sample database and manages customer accounts.
• Runs financial and account reports.
• Responds to customer inquiries and complaints.
• Assists in preparing the lab's annual operating budget.
• Enters sample data into the TCEQ database.
• Maintains and cleans lab equipment and work area.
• Participates in meetings, training, and conferences.

Requirements

• Must meet TCEQ's Water Lab Technical Manager Qualification Requirements for Microbiological or Biological Analyses within 6 months of hire.
• Bachelor's degree in microbiology, biology, chemistry, environmental sciences, physical sciences, or engineering, or equivalent experience.
• At least 16 college semester credit hours in general microbiology and biology.
• Experience in environmental analysis of representative analytes for laboratory accreditation.

Nice-to-haves
