About the position

The Water Maintenance Mechanic Technician is an entry-level position responsible for assisting in the maintenance, repair, installation, replacement, and construction of mechanical components of the City's water systems and facilities. This role operates under supervision and is essential for ensuring the functionality and reliability of water services provided by the Department of Public Utilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the maintenance and repair of mechanical components of the City's water systems.
  • Participate in the installation and replacement of water system components.
  • Conduct inspections and cleaning of water facilities and systems.
  • Support construction activities related to water services.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED completion.
  • One year of full-time work experience in maintenance, cleaning, inspection, repair, installation, replacement, and construction of mechanical components of water systems.
  • Possession of a valid Class 'C' California Driver's License.
  • Ability to obtain a valid Water Distribution Operator Certificate, Grade D1, within 12 months of appointment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with basic pump, motor, and industrial equipment operations.
  • Knowledge of tools related to water system maintenance.
  • Ability to read and understand schematic diagrams.
