About The Position

The Water Plant Operator II position within the City of Columbus involves supervising and operating the Hap Cremean Water Plant on an assigned shift. The role is critical for ensuring the safe and efficient processing of water, conducting laboratory analyses, and responding to emergencies. Operators will utilize a computerized SCADA system to monitor and control water flow and chemical processing, while also maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.

Requirements

• Possession of a valid Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) State of Ohio Class II or higher Water Supply Operator certificate for water treatment works.
• Possession of a valid driver's license.
• Possession of a valid Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) State of Ohio Full Laboratory Certificate with full laboratory approval for the assigned water treatment facility by the completion of the probationary period.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and operate the Hap Cremean Water Plant processing and pumping facility on an assigned shift.
• Conduct and evaluate laboratory analytical results and adjust chemical dosages and processes to meet regulatory and division requirements.
• Operate a computerized SCADA system to control and monitor the flow and chemical processing of water.
• Respond to emergencies affecting the Plant, such as chemical spills, electrical outages, and flooding.
• Collect and analyze water samples on and off Plant grounds to determine necessary treatment process changes.
• Maintain accurate records and logs of shift operations, including meter and gauge readings.
• Monitor and maintain chemical inventories, ensuring proper delivery and storage protocols are followed.
• Develop standard operating and safety procedures and provide training to employees.
• Prepare maintenance repair requests and perform minor equipment maintenance.
