About the position

The Water Plant Operator is responsible for operating and monitoring the water treatment plant and various remote sites. This role involves obtaining samples, performing laboratory analyses, and ensuring compliance with safety and operational procedures. The operator will also handle maintenance tasks, operate various equipment, and communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor water treatment plant and various remote sites.
• Obtain samples and perform applicable laboratory analysis.
• Read and interpret all gauges, graphs, and SCADA devices used in treatment facility.
• Perform maintenance work as required.
• Read maps, mechanical and electrical drawings.
• Work with and around various chemicals associated with the water industry.
• Perform locates and flushing hydrants.
• Operate distribution valves and drive a company vehicle in all weather conditions.
• Communicate via telephone, email, face to face, and instant messaging.
• Understand and comply with company procedures related to area of responsibility.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Valid Driver's license with the ability to pass a motor vehicle background check.
• General knowledge of water sampling, testing procedures, chemical handling and storage, and lab equipment.
• Familiarity with safety standards and OSHA regulations.
• Mathematical skills for calculating chemical dosages, volumes, weights, flows, and other algebraic formulas.
• Mechanical ability sufficient to operate pumps, valves, motors, and other equipment.
• Knowledge of water and/or wastewater treatment plant operations.
