About the position

The Water Processor: Direct Service Specialist at Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency is responsible for ensuring program compliance while providing assistance to low-income individuals. This role involves conducting intake assessments, responding to client inquiries, processing applications, and coordinating referrals to meet clients' specific needs. The specialist will maintain accurate records, communicate program requirements, and support other departments to enhance service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Interview clients to obtain necessary information for eligibility determinations and conduct initial intake interviews.
  • Process clients for assistance and verify documentation and paperwork.
  • Review and evaluate clients' circumstances to determine eligibility for programs.
  • Maintain accurate files by processing applications and keeping case history files current.
  • Conduct reviews of program files to verify compliance with agency and funder requirements.
  • Communicate with clients regarding program requirements, missed payments, and dis-enrollments.
  • Review, process, and file payment vouchers according to program processes.
  • Provide technical assistance to peers and other staff as necessary.
  • Respond to customer inquiries for applicable services in a professional manner.
  • Remain up-to-date on available services and coordinate existing services for clients.
  • Continuously monitor and assess the adequacy of referral agencies.
  • Provide support to other Wayne Metro departments/programs as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records compatible with Wayne Metro's requirements for statistics and legal compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in a related field.
  • Good analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of various service agencies in Wayne County.
  • Strong planning and organization skills with attention to detail.
  • Basic understanding of customer service practices.
  • Knowledge of interviewing methods to elicit client eligibility information.
  • Understanding of the problems and services for disadvantaged people.

Nice-to-haves

  • Working knowledge of basic internet applications and programs including Google technology and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to navigate various databases.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply program policies and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Ability to create and maintain case records and compile information for reports.
