About The Position

The position is responsible for ensuring compliance with water quality regulations by collecting samples, performing analyses, and maintaining lab certifications. The role involves investigating water quality complaints, drafting regulatory reports, and supporting operator training. It plays a crucial part in environmental management and quality control within the assigned region.

Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED required; Associates Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 to 4 years of experience in water, wastewater, or environmental compliance.
  • A 2-year degree in physical, chemical, or environmental sciences may substitute for experience.
  • Knowledge of basic chemistry and laboratory techniques.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements and environmental standards.
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Regulatory knowledge of proper lab analytical testing methods.
  • Understanding of water and/or wastewater treatment principles.

Nice To Haves

  • Drinking Water and/or Wastewater license preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collect samples from the treatment plant or distribution system.
  • Perform routine water quality analyses and maintain sample custody.
  • Conduct compliance reporting and recordkeeping.
  • Investigate water quality complaints and determine necessary actions.
  • Maintain all applicable lab certifications and accreditations.
  • Implement programs to ensure environmental compliance.
  • Assist with operator training, licensing, and CEU applications/tracking.
  • Draft regulatory reports and plan/permit renewals.
  • Provide regulatory support for compliance with EPA/IDEM/local regulations.
  • Support Emergency Response Planning activities.
  • Build relationships with external customers to resolve water quality issues.
  • Evaluate and monitor laboratory supplies and costs to maintain the lab budget.
  • Conduct system site visits prior to regulatory inspections and track deficiencies.
