About the position

The Water Quality Specialist Trainee position is an entry-level role focused on enhancing water resources through inspections and investigations related to agricultural operations and compliance with environmental regulations. The role involves formal and practical training, allowing the trainee to gain experience and autonomy in conducting inspections, issuing violations, and participating in public meetings to promote the Department's policies.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in conducting inspections and investigations related to agricultural operations and compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Conduct inspections of Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFO) and other agricultural cases.
  • Issue notices of violations or field orders as necessary for identified violations during inspections.
  • Participate in public meetings to clarify the Department's positions and foster a positive public image.
  • Support complaints and compliance investigations under relevant environmental regulations.

Requirements

  • Four years of technical experience in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or a bachelor's degree in a relevant field; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Possession of an active motor vehicle license.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of permitting requirements for agricultural operations and related state and federal regulations.
