About The Position

The Water Quality Specialist is responsible for managing the water program for the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe under the supervision of the Environmental Manager. This role involves developing, managing, and implementing various grant projects related to water quality, supervising staff, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. The position is grant-funded and emphasizes the importance of work-life balance through flexible scheduling and telework options.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, biology, fisheries and wildlife, or a related field.
  • Three years of independent or program management work experience.
  • Three years of experience in environmental monitoring and data collection.
  • One year of supervisory experience.
  • One year of experience in environmental policy and data analysis.
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office with 70% proficiency in Excel.
  • Ability to pass a background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations.
  • Experience with GPS equipment and environmental sampling methods.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, update, and implement grant projects related to water quality.
  • Supervise water program staff including Restoration Specialist, Water Resource Technician, and Interns.
  • Administer water program by managing grant contracts and budgets.
  • Implement the Clean Water Act, Section 106, Quality Assurance Project Plan and Monitoring Strategy.
  • Manage and evaluate water quality data and develop annual assessment reports.
  • Develop water quality standards and update assessment reports as required by the Clean Water Act.
  • Assist in developing strategies and objectives related to water resources with external agencies.
  • Conduct research on environmental matters and review state and federal permits.
  • Provide educational resources to the community regarding water quality.
  • Maintain confidentiality and present a professional demeanor.
