About The Position

The Water Quality Technician is responsible for ensuring the safety and quality of the City's water supply. This role involves monitoring water quality, conducting inspections, maintaining water facilities, and providing customer service. The technician will work under general supervision and may direct other employees while performing essential functions related to water quality management.

Requirements

  • Six months of advanced study or training past high school equivalency and one year of relevant work experience.
  • Valid Texas Class A Commercial driver's license.
  • Valid Class D TCEQ Water License or Class C TCEQ Water License with the ability to obtain a Class C within twelve months.

  • Experience with water quality testing and analysis.
  • Knowledge of backflow prevention and cross-connection inspection protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the quality of water in the distribution system by conducting water sampling and inspecting water storage tanks and pump stations.
  • Repair defective equipment and flush water mains as needed.
  • Inspect commercial accounts for problems and illegal hookups.
  • Comply with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) regulations by investigating and tracking water quality concerns.
  • Operate and calibrate field equipment, prepare state-mandated reports, and maintain water quality logs.
  • Provide customer service support by monitoring annual backflow inspections and resolving complaints related to water quality and pressure.
  • Assist in the installation and repair of water and sewer utilities by operating heavy equipment.
