About the position

The Water Resource Recovery Facility Operator position involves monitoring and operating the facility under the supervision of the Facility Manager. The role includes managing various equipment and ensuring the effective treatment of wastewater while adhering to established practices.

Responsibilities

• Operates pumps, valves, motors, blowers, boilers, mixers, and other equipment to control sewage and sludge flow.
• Inspects operating equipment to detect malfunctions and makes adjustments or minor repairs.
• Collects samples of sewage and sludge for laboratory analysis and performs simple analyses.
• Maintains daily logs and records of pressures, temperatures, flow rates, and other data.
• Assists maintenance staff in major and minor repair work as required.
• Performs general maintenance and cleanup of plant equipment and structures, including laboring, painting, and landscaping tasks.
• Operates tractors, backhoes, forklifts, dump trucks, and other plant-related equipment as needed.
• May transport dewatered sludge to storage pads.
• Completes on-the-job training and implements acquired skills successfully.
• Participates in training new operators and shares expertise in wastewater treatment operations.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Twelve months experience in a wastewater-related field preferred or twenty-four months experience in technical operations and maintenance of mechanical equipment.
• Ability to lift weights up to 55 pounds and climb stairs; tolerate heights of up to 50 feet.
• Must possess a valid driver's license in the State of Ohio.
• Ohio EPA Class I Wastewater Treatment Operator Certificate or obtain within three years of assuming the position.
