About the position

The Water Resources/Drainage Engineering Associate I position at RS&H is an entry-level role within the Infrastructure Group, located in St. Charles, IL. This position is primarily responsible for drainage design and the production of plans and reports related to stormwater management. The Associate will support various projects involving stormwater collection and conveyance, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, water quality design, environmental permitting, and sustainability practices. The role requires the application of accepted and innovative water resources engineering practices to serve clients such as IDOT, state transportation agencies, regional airports, and local agencies. In this role, the Associate will analyze and interpret data, perform design analyses, and conduct impact studies. They will be involved in cost analyses, design requirements, site selection, and limited design layouts. The Associate will design complete projects, systems, components, or processes, and prepare necessary project documents, engineering analyses, and reports. Quality control reviews will be a key responsibility to ensure that key milestones are achieved. Additionally, the Associate will conduct field reviews and observations of ongoing construction projects to enhance their understanding of construction practices and design applications. Problem-solving will be a critical aspect of the role, requiring timely and innovative solutions to challenges that arise. Responsibilities

  • Analyze and interpret data related to drainage design.
  • Perform analyses of design, planning, and impact studies.
  • Conduct cost analyses and determine design requirements.
  • Select sites and create limited design layouts.
  • Design complete projects, systems, components, or processes.
  • Prepare project documents, engineering analyses, and reports.
  • Conduct quality control reviews to ensure key milestones are met.
  • Perform field reviews and observations of ongoing construction projects.
  • Formulate and solve problems with innovative solutions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 0-2 years relevant experience in engineering.
  • Certification as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT).
  • Proficient in production software and construction document production.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with watershed delineation and determination of hydrological parameters.
  • Familiarity with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software (HEC-HMS, HY-8, HEC-RAS, SMS SRH-2D, SWMM, ICPR/StormWise).
  • Experience in drainage analysis and design using Geopak Drainage.
  • Knowledge of Subsurface Utilities Design and Analysis (SUDA) for Open Roads Designer (ORD).
  • Proficiency in CADD software (Microstation SS10, ORD, and/or Civil 3D).
  • Experience with ArcGIS for water resources projects.
  • Ability to produce Plans, Specifications, and Estimates.
