About the position

The Water Resources Engineer position at Black & Veatch focuses on stormwater planning and design, asset management, and water quality. This role is critical in addressing challenges related to stormwater regulations, flooding, and water quality impairments. The engineer will lead projects that enhance stormwater management and contribute to the company's strategic initiatives in sustainable infrastructure and integrated planning.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the execution of water resources projects and act as Engineering Manager.
  • Plan, model, and design stormwater improvements, including open channels and stormwater detention facilities.
  • Design green infrastructure and sustainable watershed measures, including structural BMPs.
  • Plan and design flood mitigation improvements, including dams and levees.
  • Develop erosion and sediment control plans, including SWPPP development.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and manage permitting efforts for USACE, FEMA, and other environmental permits.
  • Conduct scenario planning for CSO, SSO, stormwater, and TMDL compliance projects.
  • Apply sophisticated models for collection systems, watersheds, and water quality analysis.
  • Plan for supply diversification and collection/distribution system expansions.
  • Build client relationships to drive business growth.
  • Assist in business development by identifying and capturing relevant services.
  • Interface with innovative partners to leverage new technologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of 5 years related work experience in water resources planning and design.
  • Proficiency with applications and models such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, EPA/XP-SWMM, InfoWorks, and ArcGIS.
  • Experience with regulatory requirements and procedures.
  • Ability to drive client-facing and business development efforts.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience developing and executing planning and water resource projects.
  • Familiarity with asset management/CMMS systems like Cityworks or Lucity.
