About the position

The Water/Sewer Maintenance Worker II is responsible for performing unskilled and semiskilled tasks related to the maintenance and renovation of City properties and facilities, including public buildings, grounds, water and sewer facilities, and streets. This role involves operating light to medium-sized vehicles and construction equipment, as well as performing various maintenance tasks such as repairs, cleaning, and assisting skilled tradespeople.

Responsibilities

• Repairs and replaces manholes, cleans, repairs, and replaces sewer lines.
• Operates hand and power tools including jack hammer, air compressor, and other tools.
• Operates light to medium equipment including rodder, suction pumps, flusher, tractors, and loaders.
• Cleans catch basins, lays pipe, paints, and silk screens traffic signs.
• Assists skilled repairmen in plumbing repairs and performs minor repairs to buildings and equipment.
• Reports to work on a regular and timely basis.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
• One (1) year of experience as a trades helper or maintenance laborer in construction and maintenance trades.
• Good knowledge of manual labor work practices, methods, tools, and materials of varied semiskilled general maintenance work.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to operate various types of automotive and power equipment.
