About the position

The Water Systems Electrical/Mechanical Technician at Big River Steel is a critical role within the maintenance team, responsible for performing electrical and mechanical maintenance functions to ensure the continuous operation of all service equipment in a heavy industrial environment. This position requires a trained and experienced individual who can install, maintain, repair, and operate a variety of electrical and mechanical systems using specialized tools and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all electrical and mechanical maintenance functions necessary to maintain operating and service equipment.
  • Install, maintain, repair, and operate a broad range of electrical and mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Work with variable frequency drives, soft starts, semicode relays, and PLC controls.
  • Open and close breakers and understand safety risks associated with high voltage systems.
  • Collaborate with the Operations team to address any issues that arise during operations.
  • Read and understand electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Utilize computer skills for maintenance system tracking and documentation.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of manufacturing and/or industrial experience or equivalent education.
  • Experience with industrial electronics, motors and controls, and electrical power systems.
  • Knowledge of AC/DC theory, test instruments, and instrumentation.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and drawings.

Nice-to-haves

  • Mechanical understanding is a plus but not mandatory.
  • Experience with instrumentation such as pressure switches and load cells.
