About the position

Mohave County Public Works-Water & Improvement Districts Division is currently recruiting for the position of Water Systems Operator located in Golden Valley, AZ. Depending on qualifications, may underfill position. This posting may be used to fill current and future vacancies. The position involves performing work involved in the maintenance and operation of public or other related water systems.

Responsibilities

  • Operates water systems in accordance with Federal, State and Local rules and regulations.
  • Performs required testing and sampling of water.
  • Operates and maintains water system, wells, storage tanks, hydro-pneumatic tanks, lines, and valves.
  • Monitors pump motors to detect unusual noises, vibrations, or excessive heat.
  • Utilizes backhoes, service trucks, compactors, and hand tools.
  • Performs efficiency tests on pumps, wells, and other equipment.
  • Troubleshoots and corrects minor electrical and mechanical equipment problems.
  • Repairs and overhauls pumps, motors, chlorinators, and control valves.
  • Determines best course of action in the completion of assignments including setting priorities.
  • Supervises, coordinates, and performs a variety of administrative work such as scheduling of subordinate personnel.
  • Maintains records and responds to requests for information or services.
  • Prepares reports of expenditures, activities performed and other related required information.
  • Prepares performance evaluations and recommends disciplinary actions.
  • Approves vacations and time off; prepares work schedules and assignments.
  • Checks progress of assignments performed by assigned personnel.
  • Determines proper and efficient usage of materials, equipment, hand, and power tools.
  • Selects and orders required materials and supplies.
  • Maintains an adequate inventory of materials, equipment and tools.
  • Prepares complete, accurate and timely budget information, cost data, reports, records, and logs.
  • Installs water services, repairs broken water lines, maintains buildings and grounds.
  • Performs readings of well meters and storage tanks levels.
  • Keeps detailed records of maintenance activities and prepares reports.
  • Maintains good public relations with residents in the district and with other agencies and suppliers.
  • Communicates effectively with management, employees, customers, regulatory personnel, and others.
  • Troubleshoots and addresses water related complaints.
  • Responds to water system emergencies.
  • Routinely flushes and cleans water mains, cleans and disinfects storage tanks.
  • Supervises treatment and assures proper monitoring and control.
  • Safely handles, stores, and utilizes treatment chemicals.
  • Keeps water system plans up to date.
  • Protects equipment and facilities from corrosion, vandalism and/or other damage.
  • Conducts safety inspections, follows safety rules, and provides safety training.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED (General Education Degree).
  • Three (3) years successful experience in the operation and maintenance of water systems and water distribution sites.
  • Must pass a drug screen post offer.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license for operation of motor vehicles on Arizona roads.
  • Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ)'s Water Operator - Grade 1 and Water Treatment-Grade 1 Certifications must be attained within three (3) months of employment.
  • Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ)'s Water Operator - Grade 2 and Water Treatment-Grade 2 Certifications must be attained within eighteen (18) months of employment.

Benefits

  • Range 14, Step 1-8: $22.15 - $27.23 for Water Systems Operator.
  • Range 10, Step 1-8: $18.22 - $22.41 for Utility Service Worker.
