About the position

The Civil Engineer position within the Water Utilities department is responsible for the planning, designing, and monitoring of construction projects related to the City's water treatment, distribution, and sanitary sewer systems. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of civil engineering principles and practices, as well as the ability to manage multiple projects and budgets effectively.

Responsibilities

• Review, coordinate, and monitor water and sanitary sewer plans and specifications for completeness and compliance with engineering practices.
• Prepare plans and specifications for water and sanitary sewer renewals, including bidding and final acceptance of construction.
• Manage multiple projects and maintain detailed project budgets and cash flow reports.
• Administer assigned projects from design to construction, ensuring timely completion and minimizing change orders.
• Communicate effectively with city personnel, utilities, consultants, contractors, and the public regarding utilities construction.
• Prepare clear and accurate reports and presentations related to utility projects.
• Maintain records, files, computer models, and project statuses.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas.
• Possession of a valid Texas Operator's License, Class C.
• Minimum of four (4) years' experience in Civil and/or Water Engineering.
• Comprehensive knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices, and relevant laws and regulations.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with municipal surveys and public works design.
• Familiarity with methods, equipment, and materials used in water and sanitary sewer construction and maintenance.
