The City of Winter Haven is seeking a dedicated and skilled Water Utility Inspector to join our team. This full-time position plays a crucial role in ensuring that as our city continues to grow, we maintain a strong focus on code and regulatory compliance, safety, and sustainability. The Water Utility Inspector will be responsible for inspecting utility site development, water and reuse distribution systems, as well as sanitary and storm sewer collection systems. This position requires a keen eye for detail and a thorough understanding of construction methods and regulatory requirements to ensure that all work complies with city-approved construction documents and local, state, and federal codes. In this role, you will perform essential job functions that include inspecting the construction of utility site projects, verifying that construction conforms to applicable codes and standards, and advising contractors on non-conforming work. You will also be responsible for keeping complete inspection records, rendering daily inspection reports, and maintaining current knowledge of codes and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will have considerable knowledge of utility site development activities and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. The position requires a minimum of three years of experience in the construction or inspection of water and sewer systems, along with a high school diploma or equivalent. Special requirements include a valid Florida driver's license and the ability to obtain necessary certifications within the first year of employment. The work environment may require planned night work or inspections after normal hours, and the physical demands of the job necessitate strength and flexibility to perform essential functions.
