About the position

The Water/Wastewater Treatment Operator is responsible for the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities, ensuring compliance with local and state regulations. This role involves managing sewage ponds, water softening systems, and various treatment processes to maintain optimal water quality. The operator will perform routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs, while also submitting necessary testing reports and adhering to safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain wastewater treatment facilities including sewage grinders, augers, compactors, and aeration equipment.
  • Manage sewage ponds and associated wetlands, ensuring proper functioning and maintenance.
  • Submit necessary testing reports in accordance with local or state regulations.
  • Monitor and adjust the operation of water softening systems to maintain hardness levels within established standards.
  • Conduct regular testing of water and wastewater samples for quality parameters and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Maintain detailed records of water softener operations and water quality test results.
  • Perform routine inspections and maintenance of electrical systems and troubleshoot issues as needed.
  • Implement best practices for sustainable management of natural resources.
  • Respond to emergencies such as chemical spills or equipment malfunctions according to established protocols.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED certification is required.
  • Valid State Wastewater Operator Certification, Class D or higher is required.
  • Two years of experience in wastewater treatment plant operations is required.
  • Experience with sewage grinders, augers, compactors, and water softening systems is required.
  • Proficiency in the use of computerized monitoring and control systems is preferred.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills are necessary.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate's degree in environmental science, engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Water Treatment Operator Certification, Class D or higher is preferred.
  • Experience with electrical systems maintenance is preferred.
  • Experience with pond and wetlands management is preferred.
