Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator

About the position

The WWTP Operator position at KIRA Training Services involves providing operational support to the Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant located at the US Air Force Academy in Colorado. The operator will be responsible for controlling treatment plant machines and equipment to purify and clarify water for human consumption and industrial use, as well as operating sewage treatment and sludge processing equipment in the wastewater treatment plant. The role requires adherence to company policies, safety regulations, and the completion of all required training in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

• Control treatment plant machines and equipment to purify and clarify water for human consumption and industrial use.
• Operate and control electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate flow of raw water into treating plant.
• Dump specified amounts of chemicals into water and adjust automatic devices for chemical admission.
• Operate agitators to mix chemicals and allow impurities to settle.
• Clean tanks and filter beds, using backwashing.
• Test water samples to determine acidity, color, and impurities.
• Record data such as residual content of chemicals and water turbidity.
• Operate sewage treatment, sludge processing, and disposal equipment in the wastewater treatment plant.
• Maintain log of operations and record meter and gas readings.
• Give directions to wastewater treatment-plant attendants and sewage-disposal workers.
• Perform preventative and operational maintenance as required.
• Adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
• Consistently produce quality products and service.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Completion or GED Equivalent.
• HAZWOPPER certification required (current).
• Must be able to clearly communicate (orally and written) in the English language.
• Good documentation and organizational skills.
• Must be able to respond to calls for work outside of normal working hours.
• Valid State of Colorado Water and Wastewater II Operators Licenses.
• Operators at Wastewater Treatment Plant are required to undergo the series of Hepatitis vaccinations.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook programs.
• Ability to speak, read, and write English.
• Must possess the ability to interact well with others in a team setting or alone.
• Must be capable of working under tight time constraints in a high-volume environment.
• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Practical knowledge of worksite safety, occupational hazards, and standard safety practices.
• Ability to perform duties under adverse weather conditions.
• Must have and maintain a valid state driver's license to operate a company vehicle.
• Must be able to successfully complete a drug/alcohol test and a criminal record check.
