About the position

The Watercolor Artist will create unique hand-painted designs for a baby apparel company specializing in organic cotton clothing. This role involves collaborating closely with the Design team to ensure that prints are seamlessly integrated into garments while adhering to the brand's aesthetic. The position requires a strong understanding of print trends and the ability to manage seasonal print assortments effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Create unique designs and patterns that reflect brand aesthetic, concept direction, and business strategy.
  • Create original artwork from drawing to hand painting and digital rendering to execute prints.
  • Demonstrate creative ability to autonomously design prints of varying styles and layouts.
  • Lead print creation in reaction to seasonal concepts balancing needs of category business.
  • Manage seasonal print assortment, creating dynamic & diverse ranges of print variety.
  • Maintain strong connection to emerging print and pattern trends found within art, design, and fashion.
  • Create on-brand effortless print repeats meeting style needs.
  • Skillfully color separate artworks, reducing colors to meet screen limitations while preserving intended aesthetic.
  • Present print designs to design team and leadership, incorporating feedback to refine.
  • Communicate regularly with overseas vendors.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the department's calendar, including key events and milestones, while adhering to deadlines.
  • Create and accurately manage artwork mill-sheets to team standards, resulting in successful execution of prints in production.
  • Proactively prepare for print representation in printouts and cads for product reviews.
  • Review and comment on design submits with strong attention to detail, while ensuring accuracy in comments and approvals.
  • Review and comment on all lab dips and yarn skeins.
  • Manage, maintain and organize print library.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Fine Art, Textile Design, Graphic Design, or a related field.
  • 5-7 years experience in print or textile industry, preferably in childrenswear.
  • Exceptional watercolor painting ability is required.
  • Self-motivated and exceptional artistic ability.
  • Exceptional color sense, skilled in utilizing seasonal color palettes to create modern designs.
  • Strong creative and technical skills in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the children's fashion industry.
  • Familiarity with overseas vendor communication.
