About the position

The Wax Process Control Engineer is responsible for overseeing various engineering functions related to the design, development, and implementation of products and processes in the manufacturing of investment castings. This role involves providing expert consultation, improving product quality, and ensuring compliance with customer specifications. The engineer will work closely with customers, tooling personnel, and internal teams to manage projects, supervise other engineers or technicians, and contribute to cost-saving initiatives. The position requires a strong background in engineering principles, particularly in mechanical, industrial, and materials science engineering, along with extensive experience in investment casting technology.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the concurrent engineering process with customers.
  • Prepare design specifications and ensure compliance with customer requirements.
  • Interact with customers and tooling personnel to facilitate production.
  • Review manufacturing processes and develop necessary tools and procedures.
  • Coordinate with QA and production personnel for investment casting production.
  • Design gating systems and prepare routers for manufacturing.
  • Assist in preparing quotes and establish development timetables for new jobs.
  • Correct engineering-related problems and release developed jobs.
  • Review customer drawings and specification changes for impact.
  • Supervise other engineers or technicians on assigned projects as needed.
  • Ensure casting metallurgical quality and issue technique cards and work instructions.
  • Work with the Product Engineer to determine costs and pursue cost reduction programs.
  • Support the Manufacturing organization in meeting shipping goals for each part number.
  • Plan and manage part metallurgical qualification processes.
  • Be responsible for annual cost savings projects totaling 3x the employee's salary.

Requirements

  • BS degree in engineering with at least 10 years of relevant experience, or MS degree in engineering with 8-10 years of relevant experience, or equivalent experience.
  • Broad knowledge of mechanical, industrial, materials science engineering, and investment casting technology.
  • Demonstrated ability in engineering principles and disciplines, employed manufacturing processes, and statistical analysis.
  • Experience in preparing specifications and completing major projects.
  • Ability to supervise and direct activities of professionals with diverse expertise.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software.
  • Familiarity with statistical programs, Excel, Solidview, Unigraphics, or Catia.
