About the position

The Weather Forecaster/Observer position at RedTown Technical Services, LLC, located in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, is a critical role responsible for performing meteorological weather watches. This includes taking, evaluating, recording, and disseminating surface weather observations, specifically METAR and SPECI reports. The forecaster will issue Terminal Aerodrome Forecasts (TAFs), write DD-175-1 forms, and disseminate weather watches, warnings, and advisories. The role also involves responding to Pilot to Metro Service (PMSV) requests and disseminating Pilot Reports (PIREPs). The position is full-time, with an expected workload of approximately 56 hours per week, and candidates can expect to work nights, weekends, and occasional holidays. The hourly pay starts at $29.97 for forecasters and $26.73 for observers, with additional health and welfare compensation of $4.48 per hour for up to 40 hours per week. The company provides housing and utilities at no cost, and employees benefit from significant tax advantages due to the overseas employment status. The selected candidate will be required to maintain a valid U.S. passport throughout their employment and must be a U.S. citizen. This position is set to become available on November 15, 2024.

Responsibilities

  • Perform meteorological weather watches by taking, evaluating, recording, and disseminating surface weather observations.
  • Issue Terminal Aerodrome Forecasts (TAFs) and write DD-175-1 forms.
  • Disseminate weather watches, warnings, and advisories.
  • Respond to Pilot to Metro Service (PMSV) requests and disseminate Pilot Reports (PIREPs).
  • Monitor radar and satellite imagery for weather analysis.
  • Provide briefings including canned route and over-the-counter briefings.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Obtain and maintain eligibility for a DoD CAC.
  • Minimum of 2 years of weather observing and aviation forecast experience with a DoD or other government agency.
  • Completion of a DoD formal training program for weather observing and forecasting or an equivalent FAA or NWS program.
  • Visual acuity correctable to 20/20 with glasses or contacts.
  • Ability to operate all meteorological and communications equipment required for certification.
  • Proficient in speaking, reading, and understanding English.
  • Must have a valid U.S. passport and retain it throughout employment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with the Navy's Flight Weather Briefer program.
  • Current active Navy CAC or active security clearance within the past 2 years.
  • Experience operating the Automated Service Operating System (ASOS).
