About the position

The Weatherization Furnace Technician at HRDC7 is responsible for testing, tuning-up, and repairing heating systems in low-income client homes to ensure compliance with Montana's safety and energy efficiency standards. This role involves direct client interaction, advising on energy conservation, and maintaining communication with the Branch Operations Director and co-workers to ensure efficient program operation.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and test heating systems for energy efficiency and safety.
• Check furnace and hot water heater for proper operation, carbon monoxide levels, and temperature settings.
• Establish rapport with clients to inform them about furnace repairs and tune-up measures.
• Advise clients on energy conservation measures and furnace safety.
• Account for tools and inventory assigned to the vehicle before and after jobs.
• Inspect, evaluate, and document problems with client heating systems.
• Correct and repair non-water heat systems and other heating system issues.
• Document heating system test results and complete required paperwork.
• Provide training on heating systems to other employees as needed.
• Maintain ongoing communication with the Branch Operations Director and co-workers.
• Complete special projects as assigned and be flexible in assuming new duties.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field from a four-year college or university.
• Four years of related experience and/or training in a nonprofit environment.
• HVAC certificate and Hydronic Heating Certificate required.
• Ability to obtain Weatherization certification within one year.
• Valid Montana Driver's License and proof of personal automobile insurance.

• Knowledge of safety requirements for the construction industry.
• Strong organizational, listening, and communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to operate and interpret furnace testing instruments.
• Understanding of mechanical codes and principles of heat loss.
