About the position

The Executive Communications Team within the Department of Ecology is seeking a Web Application Developer - Journey to enhance the external-facing Department of Ecology website. This role is pivotal in translating business requirements into dynamic web experiences that align with the agency's strategic goals and priorities. The position can be based in various locations across Washington State, including Lacey, Bellingham, Union Gap, Spokane, Shoreline, and Vancouver, with the requirement that the employee must live within a commutable distance from their duty station. Notably, if the position is located in Shoreline, WA, there will be an additional 5% pay increase due to the cost of living in King County. As a Web Application Developer, you will be responsible for providing application development support for the agency's external website Content Management System (CMS). This includes maintaining and administering the custom codebase and system configurations for the enterprise-level external website. You will design, document, develop, maintain, and enhance complex applications for the Communications office, offering independent consultation on small to medium-scale projects that involve new technologies and integration of information systems across the agency. Your role will also involve creating and managing complex data models and business objects, collaborating with agency business partners to assess website needs, and participating in project planning processes to develop accurate recommendations and proactive development approaches. This position offers a flexible hybrid work schedule, allowing for up to 80% telework, which supports a healthy work-life balance and reduces commuting time. Responsibilities

  • Provide application development support for Ecology's external website Content Management System (CMS).
  • Maintain and administer the custom codebase and system configurations for the agency's enterprise-level external website.
  • Design, document, develop, maintain, and enhance complex applications for the Communications office.
  • Provide independent consultation on small to medium-scale projects involving new technologies and integration of information systems.
  • Create, implement, maintain, and manage various complex data models and business objects.
  • Collaborate with agency business partners to assess website needs and explore leveraging enterprise web and CMS infrastructure.
  • Participate in project planning processes and scoping exercises to develop accurate recommendations and proactive development approaches.

Requirements

  • A total of four (4) years of experience and/or education in computer application development and maintenance.
  • Experience in independently analyzing, designing, implementing, maintaining, and/or programming small to medium scale web-based applications.
  • Education involving a major study in computer science, information technology, or a closely related program.
