About the position

The Web Application Developer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting applications for the Gwinnett County Public Safety community. This role involves working on complex projects, taking ownership of specific features or modules, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and enhance features and functionality within ongoing and new development projects using Python, Flask, JavaScript, and other modern technologies.
  • Actively participate in all stages of the software development life cycle, including planning, design, implementation, testing, and maintenance.
  • Work closely with project managers, developers, and stakeholders to ensure project success.
  • Conduct code reviews and provide feedback to junior developers, helping maintain high coding standards.
  • Engage in gathering and analyzing user feedback to improve applications continuously.
  • Contribute to the execution of test plans, debugging, and issue resolution to maintain software quality.
  • Document development processes and adhere to team coding standards and best practices.
  • Assist in the preparation and updating of technical and user documentation.
  • Work with stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver software solutions tailored to their needs.
  • Ensure that all development work aligns with security and compliance standards relevant to Public Safety.
  • Assist in deploying web applications to Windows servers, including configuring IIS and setting up services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Analytics, or a related technical field.
  • 10 years of hands-on experience in software development, particularly in full stack development.
  • Valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficiency with Python, React, and other modern programming languages and frameworks.
  • Experience with SQL Server or other relational databases, including schema design and query optimization.
  • Familiarity with development tools and practices, including CI/CD and automated testing.
  • Understanding of RESTful APIs, web services, and modern network communication.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies.
  • Proficient in version control systems, particularly Git and GitHub Enterprise.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to adapt to evolving user requirements.
  • Advanced JavaScript Frameworks: Experience with frameworks like Angular or Vue.js.
  • Cloud Platform Experience: Experience deploying applications on cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • DevOps Practices: Familiarity with tools like Docker, Kubernetes, or Jenkins for automating deployment and optimizing the development process.
  • Testing and Monitoring: Experience with testing methodologies and monitoring tools to ensure software reliability.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly.
