About the position

The Web Application Firewall/DDOS Engineer is responsible for developing and maintaining the technical IT and cybersecurity capabilities necessary for safeguarding the firm's information systems and applications throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC). This role involves designing, planning, testing, and implementing cybersecurity technology projects, with a focus on web application firewalls and DDoS mitigation strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain technical and non-technical documentation for the Web Application Firewall (WAF) system and related processes.
  • Develop and maintain technical and non-technical documentation for the Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) systems and related processes.
  • Monitor and analyze web traffic for potential security threats and recommend appropriate actions to mitigate risks.
  • Proven expertise in Akamai Kona Site Defender, Akamai Bot Manager, and AWS WAF.
  • Hands-on experience with network protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, DNS).
  • Familiarity with automation and scripting tools for WAF policy deployment.
  • In-depth understanding of network protocols and their role in DDoS mitigation.
  • Good understanding of BGP, routing, and network traffic management techniques used during DDoS attacks.
  • Experience with DDoS mitigation technologies and vendors.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for DDoS incidents and work closely with network operations and security teams to respond to active threats.
  • Participate in efforts related to designing, planning, enhancing, and testing all cybersecurity technologies used throughout the enterprise.
  • Participate in the analysis of information to recommend and plan the use of new technologies or modifications to existing systems.
  • Participate in the implementation of new information security technologies or integration of existing technologies.
  • Provide technical support of information security technologies, providing problem analysis and resolution in a timely manner.
  • Lead small cybersecurity projects with manageable risks and resource requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and six to eight years of experience in systems engineering or administration or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Deep specialized and/or broad functional knowledge in applied enterprise information security technologies including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and encryption.
  • Previous experience in leading complex IT projects.
