About the position

Brigham Young University (BYU) is seeking a Senior Web Applications Developer to join the Office of Digital Humanities. This role is pivotal in sourcing, developing, and maintaining software that supports the students, faculty, and administrators within the College of Humanities. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and upkeep of web applications utilized in faculty research, classroom teaching, and college business operations. This includes deploying and managing code across various stages such as development, staging, and production, while also responding to specific and evolving needs of the college community. In this position, the developer will support clients including researchers and instructors within the College of Humanities, the Dean's Office, Liberal Arts Advisement and Careers, and the Humanities Digital Media and Communications (DMaC) team. The role involves creating and maintaining web applications, as well as supporting existing CMS-based sites for the Office of Digital Humanities (ODH). Collaboration with colleagues in ODH is essential to develop an application strategy, determine hosting requirements, manage application deployment, and oversee code versioning and maintenance, all while utilizing university data for academic applications. Additionally, the Senior Web Applications Developer will manage and track web projects, which includes conducting code reviews, overseeing Git management, ensuring dependency oversight, and reporting to ODH project managers. A key aspect of this role is to train and supervise student developers in web application programming, fostering their growth and ensuring high-quality code output.

Responsibilities

  • Support clients including researchers/instructors within the College of Humanities and related offices.
  • Create and maintain web applications and support existing CMS-based sites for the Office of Digital Humanities (ODH).
  • Collaborate with colleagues to create an application development strategy and determine hosting requirements.
  • Manage and track web projects including code reviews, Git management, and reporting to project managers.
  • Train and supervise student developers in web application programming.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a relevant field.
  • One year of experience developing web applications and managing websites, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of web application development using advanced technologies and practices.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a relevant field (preferred).
  • Three or more years of directly related work experience in website and web application development using modern technologies and practices.
  • Ability to work effectively both in a team environment and independently.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and complete them on time.
