The Web Designer position in Jersey City, NJ, is a consulting opportunity tailored for a creative individual with a strong background in graphic design and user interface/user experience (UI/UX) design. In this role, the Web Designer will be responsible for developing detailed functional requirements and UI/UX design documents for web-based and reporting solutions. The candidate will also participate in change management processes, ensuring that changes are properly tested and migrated to production. Supporting User Acceptance Testing (UAT) is a key responsibility, and the designer may be required to work occasional overtime to meet project deadlines. The position also involves liaising between business users and technical staff throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring that all deliverables meet the required standards. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of usability methodologies and tools, including user profiles, user scenarios, navigation flow charts, organizational models, storyboards, wireframes, mockups, feature lists, functional requirements, and user interface specifications. A background in graphic design or art for the web is essential, along with proficiency in design software such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. The role requires a detail-oriented individual capable of multitasking and effectively handling changing requirements and priorities, as well as experience in solution development using the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) in both waterfall and agile methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Liaison between business users and technical staff throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Develop detailed functional requirements and UI/UX design documents for web-based and reporting solutions.
  • Participate in change management processes and ensure changes are properly tested and migrated to production.
  • Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
  • Occasional overtime may be required to meet deadlines.
  • Responsible, in conjunction with Project Manager and Business Analyst, for the overall project deliverable.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent with a minimum of 4 years progressive experience as a Graphic Artist.
  • Extensive knowledge of usability methodologies/tools including user profiles, user scenarios, navigation flow charts, organizational models, storyboards, wireframes, mockups, feature lists, functional requirements, and user interface specifications.
  • In-depth knowledge of user experience disciplines: usability, user-centric design processes, and design-driven data analysis.
  • Expert in using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or equivalent.
  • Knowledgeable in color theory and ability to apply color recommendations based on project requirements.
  • Extensive experience creating or improving MS PowerPoint presentations.
  • Proficiency in working with MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Visio is a plus.
  • Detail-oriented with abilities to multi-task and effectively handle changing requirements and priorities.
  • Experience in solution development using SDLC in waterfall and agile methodologies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with building dashboards or data visualizations (using tools like QlikView).
  • Additional training or advanced degree in interface design, information design, interaction design, graphical art, or illustrations.
