About the position

The NC Museum of Natural Sciences is seeking a Web Designer to join its Communications and Marketing team. This role focuses on web design, editing, accessibility, and analytics for the Museum's website. The Web Designer will be responsible for creating and organizing web content to align with the Museum's communication strategies and goals.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with team members to design and create new pages/web sections in the CMS, including blog posts and event calendar pages.
  • Ensure compliance with ADA standards for online content accessibility.
  • Post and maintain assigned areas of the websites such as Homepage, Visit, Blog Posts, Press Releases, Events Calendar, and regional sites.
  • Provide instruction and guidance to staff on the front-end CMS, currently WordPress.
  • Manage the Google Analytics & Tag Manager account, including tracking PDFs and reporting web traffic as requested.
  • Assist with analyzing web statistics.
  • Collaborate with the Communications and Marketing team to develop the look and feel of website redesigns.
  • Contribute to UX design and participate in the design and development of UI features.
  • Build or work with outside contractors to create attractive and professional sites with easy navigation and accessible interfaces.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in web development/design, digital design, computer programming, or related curriculum from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated experience managing website content and facilitating webpage design.
  • Demonstrated experience providing training and/or guidance to staff on web content creation and maintenance.
  • Demonstrated work history analyzing and reporting web traffic and/or statistics.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated experience managing a large institution or museum website.
  • Demonstrated ability to edit web content using proper grammar, punctuation, and ADA Section 508 Compliance.
  • Demonstrated work history of advancing marketing and communications objectives in a professional setting.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with external parties/contractors to build and maintain websites.
