About the position

The Web Designer at Florida Gulf Coast University is responsible for managing all aspects of the university's website, including design, development, and maintenance. This role involves collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure the website aligns with the university's goals and provides an optimal user experience. The Web Designer will also conduct user research, perform usability tests, and ensure compliance with web accessibility standards.

Responsibilities

  • Identify user requirements, web architecture, and project scope for the FGCU site and webpages.
  • Design and implement web page layouts based on requests from campus constituents.
  • Ensure optimal look, feel, and usability of the sites, maintaining consistency and timely availability of pages.
  • Participate in establishing policies and procedures for web-related issues and ensure compliance with university web policies.
  • Maintain an understanding of current and emerging web technologies and trends.
  • Ensure accessibility of all university websites and compliance with state and federal laws regarding accessibility.
  • Evaluate design elements for proper structure and compatibility with browsers and devices.
  • Adhere to university web policies while designing and updating web pages, maintaining current links, and performing web development duties.
  • Assist the UMC digital communications team with web support and project requests.
  • Train new web editors on web editing CMS and apply design best practices.
  • Utilize Google Analytics to analyze and report on FGCU web performance.
  • Apply SEO tools to analyze site speed and core web vitals.

Requirements

  • Five years of directly related full-time experience or a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and one year of full-time experience.
  • Relevant professional experience in web page design and development.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook).
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, Acrobat DC).

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Web Design/Development, Digital Media, or Computing Science.
  • Work experience in a higher education setting.
  • Proficiency with web design tools (Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch).
  • Experience with Web Content Management Systems (Omni CMS, Cascade CMS, WordPress, Squarespace).
  • Experience with SEO analysis tools (Screaming Frog, Crazy Egg, Deep Crawl).
  • Google Analytics Certification.
