About the position

The Web Developer (Front-end) position at Indiana University is a full-time role focused on enhancing the digital presence of IU Research through the development and maintenance of websites and web applications. In this position, the developer will translate design concepts into fully-responsive websites and web applications, emphasizing front-end development. They will consult with stakeholders to review existing websites and develop new functionalities, ensuring compatibility across multiple browsers and mobile devices. Quality assurance is a critical aspect of the role, as the developer will test websites and applications, perform necessary updates, and document changes to maintain optimal performance. Collaboration is key, as the developer will act as a liaison between design teams and back-end developers to ensure that all websites are functional, accessible, and secure. Staying current with industry standards and emerging technologies is essential, as the developer will be expected to research and implement new practices that enhance user experience and accessibility. Responsibilities

  • Assist IU Research operations in creating and implementing components related to the communications strategy.
  • Manage and maintain IU Research websites and other digital assets.
  • Utilize IU enterprise tools to create and maintain digital assets.
  • Proactively manage websites for outdated information and perform necessary maintenance.
  • Translate design concepts into code for fully-responsive websites and web applications.
  • Consult with stakeholders to review existing websites and develop new functionalities.
  • Create web tools that enhance user experience and ensure multi-browser compatibility.
  • Test websites and web applications, performing quality control checks and fixing bugs.
  • Document changes to web applications and debug unexpected behaviors.
  • Act as a liaison between design teams and back-end development to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Ensure compliance with university policies and standards in web development.
  • Research and stay updated on new industry web standards and accessibility standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • 2 years of front-end web development or related experience.
  • Proficient communication skills.
  • High degree of professionalism and time management skills.
  • Flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to audit and perform updates to complex code systems.
  • Strong understanding of related policies and standards.
  • Ability to read and write code in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Experience with common JavaScript frameworks and UX-related projects.
  • Ability to integrate advanced protocol interfaces (API).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Cascade Server WCMS, Salesforce, Canvas, and other IU enterprise tools.
  • Knowledge of UX/UI design principles.
  • Familiarity with multimedia content creation tools.
