About the position

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking an experienced Web Developer (PHP) to join their IT Division. This role involves enhancing and securing multiple WordPress applications that support highway safety, emergency messaging, and public outreach programs. The position requires on-site work, primarily four days a week, with the possibility of additional on-site days based on project demands. The developer will work closely with the Website Coordinator and be part of a dynamic team focused on delivering high-quality web solutions.

Responsibilities

• Build, maintain, and optimize scalable, distributed features and solutions for desktop and mobile user experiences.
• Develop new features in support of business and project requirements.
• Manage vendor support for maintenance and enhancement as needed.
• Work with agile development methodologies and adhere to best practices.
• Pursue continued learning opportunities in web development.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in information sciences, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of considerable software implementation experience.
• 5+ years of proficiency in PHP.
• 5+ years of understanding of WordPress architecture.
• 5+ years of understanding of SQL.
• 5+ years of understanding of REST API.
• 5+ years of ability to work as a team member on web development projects end-to-end.
• 5+ years of proven knowledge of back-end/infrastructure maintenance and optimization and UX/UI principles.
• 5+ years of knowledge of front-end technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• 5+ years of knowledge of secure coding practices.
• Outstanding communication skills.
