About the position

The Web Developer (WordPress) position at GS1 Consulting involves enhancing and securing six WordPress applications for the Virginia State Police (VSP). This role requires a full-stack developer who can work collaboratively with stakeholders to support VSP's mission in highway safety, emergency messaging, and recruitment. The position mandates a hybrid work arrangement with a significant on-site presence, typically four days a week, and potentially five days based on project demands.

Responsibilities

• Build new features and services across the full stack in WordPress.
• Develop solutions in WordPress that ensure positive, accessible user experiences for both desktop and mobile environments.
• Perform debugging and security remediations for public-facing applications.
• Work with agile development methodologies and adhere to best practices.
• Pursue continued learning opportunities in web development.

Requirements

• Demonstrated expertise in WordPress application development.
• Proficiency in PHP coding and debugging.
• Proficiency in front-end technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Understanding of SQL and REST API.
• Proven knowledge of back-end/infrastructure maintenance and optimization and UX/UI principles.
• Proven knowledge of secure coding practices.
• Ability to work as a team member on web development projects end-to-end.
• Outstanding communication skills.
• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in information sciences, computer science, or a related field.
