About the position

The Web Developer (WordPress) position at the Virginia State Police (VSP) involves enhancing and securing six WordPress applications to support the agency's public safety mission. The role requires a full stack developer who can work closely with stakeholders to build new features and services while ensuring positive user experiences across desktop and mobile platforms. This position is primarily onsite, requiring presence four days a week, with potential for additional onsite days based on project demands.

Responsibilities

• Working across the full stack in WordPress to build new features and services
• Developing solutions in WordPress that support positive, accessible user experiences in both desktop and mobile environments
• Debugging and security remediation for public-facing applications
• Working with agile development methodologies, adhering to best practices, and pursuing continued learning opportunities

Requirements

• Demonstrated expertise in WordPress application development
• Proficiency in PHP coding and debugging
• Proficiency in front-end technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
• Understanding of SQL
• Understanding of REST API
• Proven knowledge of back-end/infrastructure maintenance and optimization and UX/UI principles
• Proven knowledge of secure coding practices
• Ability to work as a team member on web development projects end-to-end
• Outstanding communication skills
• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in information sciences, computer science, or a related field; considerable software implementation experience
