About the position

The web developer will work with the university web team to assist Loyola University New Orleans to evolve and enhance its websites and digital presence. This individual will build, maintain and support a variety of web technologies. A major component of the position is the production and management of Drupal websites, themes, and graphic HTML e-mails and e-newsletters sent to Loyola University New Orleans' constituent groups. He/she must have a strong background in development and a working knowledge of web development standards, including HTML, CSS, SASS, JavaScript, and PHP. The web developer must be able to make production decisions both independently and as part of a team. A portfolio of work is required.

Responsibilities

  • Produce, and maintain Drupal websites, university calendar system, public affairs tools, and public facing web content
  • Produce, and manage graphic HTML e-newsletters and e-mails using both in-house mailing tools, Slate and MyEmma email system
  • Maintain Drupal websites and Wordpress blogs
  • Assess new standards, technologies, and trends, and formulate strategy and plans for future enhancement of Loyola's website
  • Consult with faculty and staff to identify their web needs and project deadlines
  • Support and maintain legacy web technology
  • Analyze web analytics, use findings to enhance designs and usability; and periodically issue report results to departmental constituents
  • Assist with web assets for various vendor systems to maintain Loyola's brand
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • B.A., Graphic design or communications, B.S. computer science or information technology, or related degree
  • Minimum of 2 years of web development experience
  • Experience with Content Management Systems, Drupal is a plus
  • Strong working knowledge of PHP/MySQL/HTML/CSS
  • Strong working knowledge of SASS, Bootstrap and jQuery
  • Ability to read and understand a variety of legacy code
  • Experience building responsive websites
  • Experience programming HTML emails
  • A portfolio with examples of responsive development is a must
  • Takes direction and initiative

Nice-to-haves

  • Basic design skills such as typography, 2D design, photography and image editing, layout, and presentation
  • Experience theming Wordpress sites
  • Experience modifying and styling purchased themes
  • Experience browser testing websites on Macs, PCs, and mobile devices
  • Experience using common email marketing and testing software such as MailChimp and MyEmma
  • Experience with web fonts
  • Experience working within a brand
  • Experience working as part of a creative team
