About the position

The Hostos Community College Library is seeking an innovative, collaborative, and growth-oriented professional to join its team as a Web/Digital Services Librarian. This position is pivotal in coordinating the library's online presence and providing expertise in the migration, integration, and design of user-facing library systems and applications that support academic research. The ideal candidate will contribute to the diversity and advancement of the College community through their experience and service. As a technologically proficient and experienced professional, the Web/Digital Services Librarian will work closely with various library departments, including Reference, Archives and Special Collections, Technical Services, and Access Services, to ensure adherence to best practices, accessibility needs, and standards. This role reports directly to the Chief Librarian. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, designing, and continuously improving the library website's architecture, ensuring that library content is accessible across multiple formats to support the research needs of students, faculty, and staff at Hostos and CUNY. They will coordinate and maintain content for web and mobile-enabled interactive services, enhancing the quality of the user experience. Collaboration with other library faculty and staff is essential to improve the accessibility, usability, responsiveness, and overall user experience of the library's web-based services. The librarian will also perform systems needs assessments and analysis for library patrons, develop procedures, and maintain documentation for website maintenance. In addition to these responsibilities, the Web/Digital Services Librarian will support students in developing research skills at the reference desk and through information literacy instruction. They will guide faculty and staff in effectively utilizing library services and resources, demonstrating a record of success in working with diverse groups. Excellent interpersonal, writing, and communication skills are crucial for this role. The librarian will also provide collection development and liaison duties by collaborating with department representatives and faculty members in assigned colleges or departments, develop and maintain research guides for specific subject areas, and participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of library services, policies, and procedures. Participation in library, college, and university committees is also expected, along with other related duties as assigned. Essential duties require an on-campus presence.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Master's in Library Science (MLS), Library Information Studies (MLIS), or closely related discipline from an ALA-accredited institution.
  • Second master's in a non-library subject area (for assistant professor title).
  • 2-5 years of experience with a portfolio of projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with content management systems including Springhare CMS and/or Pressbooks.
  • Experience in website design and application of web accessibility standards.
  • Knowledge of XHTML, HTML, CSS, and text/image editing software.
  • Experience with user experience testing.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems like Brightspace D2L.
  • Understanding of the needs of first-generation students.
