About the position

The Web Editor at Plymouth State University is a vital member of the Communications and Marketing team, responsible for producing sustainable and standard-compliant websites and online communication applications. This role requires proficient design and development skills, along with a solid understanding of online communication principles. The Web Editor will work collaboratively with various stakeholders to provide ongoing support, updates, and enhancements for web-based software applications, ensuring a strong focus on user experience, accessibility, and adherence to client specifications. This position may also involve training campus partners to effectively maintain their departmental pages on the university's website. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Graphic Arts, Computer Science, Communications, or a related field, along with a minimum of three years of professional experience in a web production environment. A solid knowledge of HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, Drupal, and WordPress is essential, as well as familiarity with development tools such as Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and Fireworks. The Web Editor must demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of UX and UI design fundamentals and have the ability to create responsive sites. Additionally, the candidate should be capable of developing and testing web content that adheres to W3C compliant code and ensures cross-platform and cross-browser compatibility. The role requires effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks and priorities. The Web Editor will work closely with the software development team to design, develop, maintain, and support new websites and online communication applications, optimizing architecture, navigation, and content for usability across diverse audiences while adhering to brand and industry standards. Regular testing of website functionality and usability with end users is also a key responsibility, along with troubleshooting and resolving any website-related issues. The Web Editor will serve as an advocate for web-based communications within the university community, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of internet-based technologies and providing insights and recommendations for future web service projects and initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, maintain, and support new websites and online communication applications using content management systems like Drupal and languages such as PHP and SQL.
  • Optimize architecture, navigation, search parameters, and content for optimal usability while adhering to brand and industry standards.
  • Manage daily operations of assigned projects, including development and maintenance of project management information and documentation.
  • Migrate content from legacy websites to CMS-based pages/sites.
  • Ensure regular testing of functionality and links, and update time-specific content.
  • Test website usability with end users.
  • Respond in a timely manner to questions and requests for assistance, providing professional advice to faculty and staff regarding website pages and information.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve website problems.
  • Advocate for web-based communications within the university community, maintaining knowledge of internet-based technologies and providing recommendations on future web services.
  • Lead implementation teams for major web service projects/initiatives.
  • Optimize user experience on the website and assist with content creation using best practices through SEO compliance.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Arts, Computer Science, Communications, or related field.
  • Three years of professional experience in a web production environment.
  • Solid knowledge of HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, Drupal, and WordPress.
  • Familiarity with development tools such as Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and Fireworks.
