About the position

The Web3 Systems Research Intern - IoT position at Nokia offers a unique opportunity for advanced PhD candidates to engage in groundbreaking research focused on advanced sensing technologies, particularly in environmental monitoring and chemical sensing applications. This 10-week internship, scheduled for June to August 2025, allows interns to work closely with industry-leading experts at Nokia Bell Labs, contributing to theoretical research in spectroscopy and computational modeling to enhance environmental sensing capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop theoretical frameworks for modeling complex spectral phenomena.
• Apply principles from spectroscopy to approximate full spectral signatures.
• Explore the integration of physics-based models with data-driven approaches.
• Contribute to research that could have a significant impact on real-world applications.
• Gain hands-on experience in blending theoretical research with practical solutions.

Requirements

• Advanced PhD candidate (3rd year or above) in Physics, Physical Chemistry, Optical and Chemical Sensing, or a related field.
• A solid theoretical foundation in molecular spectroscopy, with an emphasis on UV-Vis and vibrational techniques.
• Proficiency in computational modeling of spectral phenomena; familiarity with tools like Gaussian and GROMACS is preferred.
• Familiarity with chemical sensing principles and their applications.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong communication and presentation abilities.

Nice-to-haves

• Familiarity with machine learning concepts is a plus.
