About the position

DNI is seeking an experienced Website Media Support Journalist to join our team. The Journalist/Videographer will create compelling articles and videos from the research phase through publication in order to support the mission of this government program. This position is responsible for producing weekly content for both digital and print media, as well as capturing photos and videos targeted to specific audiences. The role requires a blend of creativity, technical skills, and a strong understanding of journalism norms and ethics. The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including senior-level civilian and military leaders in Latin America, to develop engaging and informative content that resonates with the target audience. In this role, the Journalist/Videographer will research, pitch, and set up story ideas, as well as conduct interviews to gather information. The position involves producing a variety of content types, including interviews, stories, and photo essays, for a digital magazine and associated social media platforms. The ability to write compelling stories for both digital and print formats is essential, as is the capacity to communicate effectively through words, images, and videos. The Journalist/Videographer will also be responsible for capturing and editing photos and videos, ensuring that all content meets the high standards expected by the organization. Travel may be required within the region to cover stories and conduct interviews, and the Journalist/Videographer will need to be adaptable to changing business needs and priorities. This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about storytelling and has a strong background in journalism, media, and communications. The successful candidate will have a demonstrable portfolio of work that showcases their ability to create engaging content across various platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Research, pitch, and set up story ideas
  • Research, pitch, and set up interviews with senior-level civilian and military leaders in Latin America
  • Produce weekly content (interviews, stories, photo essays, etc.) for a digital magazine and associated social media platforms
  • Write stories for the digital and print magazine
  • Write content for social media platforms, as needed
  • Communicate stories to the targeted audience through words, images, videos
  • Capture and edit photos and videos
  • Ability to edit photos and videos, as required
  • Travel, as required, in the region
  • Other duties as related to the business functions of FWG Solutions, as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Media, Communications, or a related field
  • Minimum of three years of experience in reporting and writing news articles, features, or investigative pieces
  • Minimum three plus (3+) years of experience in a position that is responsible for independently creating news, video, and photo content
  • Fluency in English/Spanish or English/Portuguese (Brazil) required
  • Expert knowledge of journalism norms and ethics
  • Exceptional writing skills with a passion for storytelling
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct interviews, research topics, contribute story ideas, meet deadlines, and break down information clearly and concisely for the target audience
  • Proven work experience with demonstrable portfolio of work
  • Familiarity with a wide variety of video and photo editing tools
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • High level of organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Superior interpersonal and relationship-building abilities
  • Proficiency in various Google Suite and Microsoft products
  • Strong reporter skills and ability to do one-on-one interviews with professionalism, including video interviews
