About the position

The CNC Lathe Machine Operator position is focused on setting up and operating CNC machines to ensure precise machining processes in a manufacturing environment. The role requires strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality, with responsibilities including reading blueprints, adjusting machine controls, and verifying the conformance of finished workpieces. This position operates on a weekend shift, specifically from Friday to Sunday, and is designed for individuals with experience in CNC operations.

Responsibilities

  • Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpieces, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on material or workpieces as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
  • Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjust machine controls or control media as required.
  • Verify conformance of finished workpieces to specifications.
  • Set up and operate machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
  • Perform any other work-related functions as deemed necessary and appropriate by immediate supervisor.

Requirements

  • Graduate of technical school, full apprenticeship program, or completion of in-company, three-year training program.
  • 2-5 years of CNC Lathe experience.
  • Operate CNC lathes to perform machining operations, including turning, drilling, and threading.
  • 2-year technical school or 2 years completion of in-company training program.
  • Company training as required.
  • Good knowledge of materials, feeds, and speeds.
  • Ability to make basic set-ups from scratch, including installing tools, fixtures, and workpieces.
  • Close attention and care to prevent damage to complex machine tools or costly metals such as Stainless, Inconel, and Titanium.
  • Ability to read blueprints and specifications and produce precision work.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment that is fast-paced and demanding.
  • Self-directed with excellent initiative and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple demands with a sense of urgency, drive, and energy.
