About the position

Utz Quality Foods is seeking a dedicated Weekend Night Shift Production Manager for our High Street facility located in Hanover, PA. This role is crucial as it oversees the night shift processing, packaging, and repack operations at the manufacturing facility. The Production Manager will be responsible for ensuring that production requirements, as indicated by the production scheduler, are met efficiently while maintaining high quality standards. This includes a thorough review of plant operations with shift leadership to ensure that quality and efficiency goals are consistently achieved. The Production Manager will also develop plans for improvement, ensuring that Utz processing and packaging standards are upheld. This encompasses monitoring the quality of the finished product, including aspects such as salt and oil content, moisture levels, slice thickness, and overall product accountability. The role requires effective communication and coordination within departments, particularly with processing and packaging supervisors, to ensure smooth operations. In addition to overseeing training programs for the night shift, the Production Manager will provide training for newly hired processing and packaging personnel to ensure they perform their jobs effectively. The position also involves analyzing existing production lines and recommending adaptations to enhance effectiveness and reduce costs. The Production Manager will monitor machine efficiencies, quality checks, and downtime, making necessary schedule adjustments as required. Overall, this role is pivotal in supporting the company's objectives and ensuring a high standard of quality and food safety in production operations.

Responsibilities

• Ensures that production requirements as indicated by the production scheduler are met in the most efficient manner while maintaining high quality standards.
• Responsible for ensuring that Utz processing and packaging standards are consistently maintained.
• Coordinates and builds lines of communication within the departments, specifically with processing and packaging supervisors, and all personnel reporting to them.
• Monitors and analyzes labor hours and crew size needed to efficiently run production lines.
• Oversees training programs for the Night Shift and provides training for all newly hired Processing and Packaging personnel to ensure proper job performance.
• Ensures that the Night Shift film waste program is maintained throughout the Packaging department and that information is incorporated into the overall packaging waste program.
• Analyzes existing production lines and recommends adaptations and innovations, which will increase effectiveness and lower costs.
• Monitors and analyzes RedZone for machine efficiencies, quality checks and downtime.
• Makes schedule adjustments due to downtime, lack of supplies, etc.
• Responsible for quality and food safety tasks for their position.
• Performs other duties as assigned that will impact and support the overall outcome of the company and department objectives.

Requirements

• Requires analytical, math and reading skills.
• Knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook (Email).
• Requires leadership and management skills to direct the packaging departments and interface with other departments.
• Interpersonal and supervisory skills necessary to lead others.
• Knowledge of designated packaging and processing operations to assist when needed.
• Moderate lifting and occasional skid pulling.
• Strong public speaking and presentation skills required.
• 5 years of processing and packaging equipment knowledge.
• Strong problem-solving skills and planning abilities to schedule production.
• Working knowledge of D365 and Redzone is preferred.
