About the position

As a Weekend Pharmacy Technician at Carilion Clinic, you will play a vital role in transforming healthcare by providing exceptional service and support to patients and healthcare professionals. Your responsibilities will extend beyond merely dispensing medications; you will be expected to treat every patient with respect, dignity, kindness, and empathy. This position is integral to our community-based healthcare network, which includes seven hospitals and multi-specialty physician practices. The role requires a commitment to excellence in every aspect of pharmacy practice, ensuring that patients receive friendly, accurate service and quality care at every opportunity. In this position, you will work weekends only, with a shift that includes one weekday, Saturday, and Sunday, totaling 12-hour shifts. You will be expected to maintain familiarity with a large number of medications, focusing on attention to detail and accuracy. Your ability to solve simple mathematical and logistical problems will be essential in this role, as will your customer service orientation. You will also be responsible for completing orientation competencies and pharmacy service line competencies within the first six months of your hire. Responsibilities

  • Dispense medications accurately and efficiently to patients and healthcare professionals.
  • Provide friendly and accurate service to patients, ensuring their needs are met with respect and empathy.
  • Maintain familiarity with a large number of medications (1000-2000) and ensure attention to detail in all tasks.
  • Complete orientation competencies and pharmacy service line competencies within six months of hire.
  • Solve simple mathematical and logistical problems in the work environment.
  • Budget time effectively and work efficiently and accurately with minimal supervision.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Successful completion of an approved Pharmacy Technician training course is preferred.
  • Previous pharmacy work experience is preferred.
  • Registration with the Virginia Department of Health Professionals is required.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification is required within 9 months of hire.
  • Ability to maintain familiarity with a large number of medications and focus on attention to detail/accuracy.
  • Customer service orientation and knowledge of general office equipment and procedures.
