About the position

The Weekend Receptionist at North Star Behavioral Health plays a crucial role in ensuring a positive and responsive environment for both internal and external customers. This position is specifically designed for the weekends, operating from Saturday to Sunday, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. North Star Behavioral Health is recognized as one of Alaska's leading mental health facilities, dedicated to providing hope and healing for individuals facing psychiatric or substance abuse challenges. The facility also caters to military personnel, first responders, veterans, and their families at the Chris Kyle Patriots Hospital. The organization prioritizes patient care, comfort, and security, especially during vulnerable times for patients and their families. As a receptionist, the individual will be responsible for managing the flow of information within the organization, which includes operating a multi-line switchboard to handle incoming, outgoing, and inter-office calls. The receptionist will greet and screen all visitors, ensuring that they check in and out before proceeding through the hospital. This role also involves providing clerical support to hospital personnel and acting as an information center for visitors. The receptionist must maintain a calm demeanor, especially in crisis situations, and work closely with the Intake department to assist prospective patients. Additionally, the receptionist is expected to keep the hospital lobby tidy, sign for incoming deliveries, and respond to employment applicants, guiding them on how to apply online. Responsibilities

  • Answer and respond to incoming telephone calls promptly and courteously.
  • Screen calls before transferring them to the appropriate units, ensuring patient confidentiality.
  • Use the intercom system appropriately, limiting pages to emergencies or authorized announcements.
  • Screen all visitors before allowing them to proceed past the hospital lobby, ensuring they check in and out.
  • Support the hospital's safety and security programs and comply with policies and procedures.
  • Remain calm and efficient in crisis situations.
  • Work closely with the Intake department and follow procedures for prospective patients.
  • Keep the hospital lobby areas clean and tidy at all times.
  • Sign for and receive incoming deliveries, notifying the appropriate receiver.
  • Greet and respond to applicants for employment, informing them how to apply online.
  • Read the communication log daily for new and recent communications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of high school level reading, writing, and arithmetic.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience operating a multi-line switchboard preferred.
  • Must be older than 21 years of age.
