About the position

The Weighmaster position at Granite Construction, based in Carson City, is a critical role responsible for ensuring the accurate weighing of customer trucks and the proper handling of materials delivery. This position involves issuing proof of purchase tickets, collecting payments, and collaborating with both internal and external customers to guarantee that the correct materials are delivered to their respective job sites. The Weighmaster plays a vital role in maintaining compliance with state regulations and ensuring that operations run smoothly at the facility. In this role, the Weighmaster will review and adjust the daily materials dispatch to confirm that the right materials are being delivered to the correct locations and customers. It is essential for all trucks entering the facility to be tare weighed across scales before receiving a load of aggregate or asphalt concrete, ensuring compliance with the State of California Weights and Measures guidelines. The Weighmaster will utilize the JWS system to assign trucks to the appropriate customer, order location, product, and tare weight prior to loading, and will verify the correctness of these details after the order is filled. Additionally, the Weighmaster will ensure that loaded trucks do not exceed weight limits, maintaining compliance with state regulations. Communication with plant foremen and loaders is crucial to ensure the timely loading of customer trucks. The Weighmaster will also assist the materials dispatcher with material orders as needed and prepare various reports to ensure adherence to company policies. Routine upkeep and housekeeping duties are part of the role to maintain a clean and professional facility appearance, alongside supporting corporate safety initiatives to foster a safe work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Weigh customer trucks and issue proof of purchase tickets.
  • Collect payments from customers for materials delivered.

  • Ensure all trucks tare weigh across scales before receiving loads to comply with regulations.
  • Utilize the JWS system for truck assignments and verify correctness post-loading.
  • Verify loaded trucks do not exceed weight limits to maintain compliance.
  • Maintain communication with plant foremen and loaders for timely loading of trucks.
  • Assist materials dispatcher with material orders as needed.
  • Prepare and deliver reports to ensure compliance with company policies.
  • Perform routine upkeep and housekeeping duties to maintain facility appearance.
  • Support corporate safety initiatives to ensure a safe work environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Commercial or retail sales experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of materials business is essential.
  • Experience with Hot Mix Asphalt Plants preferred.
  • General understanding of plant operations and mechanical requirements.
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to establish relationships with agencies and represent the company in public forums.
  • Strong public speaking and communication skills with management.
