About the position

The Weld Engineer will provide daily production technical support, lead and train Weld Technicians, and implement necessary process changes to enhance production efficiency. This role involves managing development testing for various welding processes, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all development testing for magnetic arc, friction, and laser welding.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects utilizing DOS tools and methodologies to enhance safety, quality, productivity, and reduce downtime and scrap.
  • Implement engineering changes on time.
  • Collaborate effectively with Dana's launch teams and customer engineering representatives.
  • Adhere to Quality, Safety, and Environmental Policies.
  • Support EOL and Diamond Board activities.
  • Maintain process documentation for manufacturing processes including FMEA, control plans, and operator instructions.
  • Coordinate continuous improvement action plans for the weld department to meet plant goals and objectives.
  • Troubleshoot and repair production welding equipment in collaboration with the maintenance department.
  • Analyze production and quality assurance reports to identify and resolve nonconformities in weld quality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in welding metallurgy or welding technology preferred.
  • Four years of practical and/or engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience and knowledge in inertia, resistance, MIG, MAG, and laser welding.
  • Familiarity with quality tools and techniques such as APQP, SPC, PFMEA, Control Plans, PPAP, and TS-16949.
  • Ability to read product drawings and prints, with knowledge of GD&T and tolerance stack analysis.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly in MS Office Suite, and general computer literacy.
  • Desired knowledge of PLC systems, specifically Allen-Bradley and Siemens.
  • Effective communication skills.
