As a Weld Manufacturing Process Engineer at American Honda Motor Co., you will play a crucial role in designing processes that ensure safety and efficiency within the weld department. Your primary responsibility will be to utilize analytic tools and traditional industrial engineering methods to optimize weld production functions and facilitate new model launches. This position is integral to achieving Honda's vision of innovation and excellence in manufacturing, contributing to the company's goal of achieving a zero environmental footprint while enhancing the joy and freedom of mobility for people around the world. In this role, you will employ the M.O.S.T. (Method, Operations, and Standards Time) methodology to develop balanced processes across various manufacturing areas, striving to achieve a remarkable 95% process efficiency. You will apply Lean Manufacturing techniques to design processes that are not only simple but also meet SQCDM (Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, and Morale) targets. Additionally, you will be responsible for maintaining the process layout and managing the logistics plan for part delivery and packaging within the department. Regular collaboration with other functional groups at Honda will be essential as you lead meetings to develop and launch improvement themes across various domains, including Quality, Safety, Delivery, Production, Purchasing, New Model, Packaging, and Logistics. You will perform time estimates for weld processes and equipment loads, developing operation standards that support cycle time optimization. Your role will also involve maintaining PDDA, G PAC V, and OQ Flow linkages to new model evaluations and build events, ensuring that all processes are aligned with Honda's high standards. You will identify opportunities to reduce waste within weld operations and improve overall efficiency by applying 5S work methods, workstation design principles, and establishing best practices for production. Evaluating and implementing ergonomic countermeasures to prevent associate injuries will also be a key aspect of your responsibilities. As you support new model events, you will forecast design impacts on the department and incorporate necessary changes into the process design, proactively identifying concerns and countermeasures before mass production begins. Your project management skills will be put to the test as you develop plans and schedules for various projects, setting timelines and detailed activities while holding meetings with cross-functional engineering groups to ensure completeness. Collecting feedback from the production floor and addressing any concerns raised by associates will be vital to your success in this role.
