About the position

The Welder/Combat Vehicle Mechanic position at General Dynamics Land Systems involves performing welding and maintenance tasks on the Stryker Family of Vehicles. The role requires a certified welder to conduct damage assessments, execute welding procedures, and support mission needs as a mechanic. Responsibilities

  • Perform Preliminary Hull Damage Assessment and Corrosion Assessment on all Stryker Family of Vehicles.
  • Perform Welding tasks on all Stryker Family of Vehicles as a GDLS Certified welder in GMAW, GTAW, and SMAW processes.
  • Conduct welding procedures on accident and battle-damaged Stryker vehicles following engineering assessments.
  • Advise and assist in the validation and implementation of welding procedures as required.
  • Determine layout and weld parts and assemblies according to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Conduct welding and maintenance tasks for installation of Retrofit kits on Stryker vehicles.
  • Identify and advise Supervisor/Management regarding technical problems as required.
  • Meet certification requirements and perform work in accordance with OEM specifications and procedures.
  • Complete certification for Nondestructive Testing (NDT) to become a Welder Self-Inspector.
  • Obtain and maintain required welding certifications for Stryker Family of vehicles.
  • Operate overhead crane and forklift, performing safety checks of equipment.
  • Support mission needs as a mechanic when not engaged in welding activities.

Requirements

  • Must meet and maintain Anthropometric Size Restrictions (ASR).
  • Must have extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications and GDLS processes, products, and military technology.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen willing and able to obtain/maintain a Passport.
  • Must obtain a Common Access Card (CAC) for access to military bases.
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Must satisfy weld entrance exam and skills test including vision, audio, respirator clearance, and physical.
  • Two (2) years welding experience is preferred.
  • Must be able to lift and handle a minimum weight of 70 lbs.
  • Required to certify on various metals and alloys.
  • Must obtain an overhead crane license and a forklift operator's license.
  • Must be able to obtain three (3) welding certifications (flat, horizontal, vertical) within a 6-week time frame.
