The Ingalls Shipbuilding Welder plays a crucial role in constructing and maintaining naval ships by joining various metal materials using different welding processes. This position is essential for ensuring the strength and integrity of the ships, which ultimately contributes to the safety of sailors and the nation. The role requires working in a dynamic shipyard environment that operates around the clock, with potential shifts during day or night depending on production needs.

Responsibilities

  • Join different types of metal materials using various welding processes, including Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and Flux-Core Arc Welding (FCAW).
  • Work in a shipyard environment that may involve different heights, confined spaces, and varying weather conditions.
  • Adhere to safety procedures that meet or exceed industry standards.
  • Pass military standard tests in vertical, horizontal, and overhead welding positions.
  • Complete hands-on skill assessments to ensure weld quality meets x-ray standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one year of work experience in FCAW and SMAW welding.
  • Ability to pass military standard tests in vertical (3G), horizontal (2G), and overhead (4G) positions.
  • Successful completion of a welding technical training certification program may substitute for experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent is preferred.
  • Previous experience in shipbuilding is preferred.
