About the position

The Welder Helper position at Optimized Process Designs involves assisting welders in various tasks related to welding operations, ensuring that all necessary materials and equipment are available, and maintaining a safe and efficient work environment. This role requires physical stamina and the ability to work in challenging outdoor conditions, as well as a commitment to safety and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Assist welder with ensuring all materials required for welding are available, including rods and grinding discs.
  • Help set up and move the rig between work areas as directed by the welder.
  • Adjust temperature on the welding machine under the guidance of the welder.
  • Clean welds using a buffer or grinder.
  • Maintain familiarity with different types of metals.
  • Clean the work area and restock supplies and materials as necessary.
  • Operate various tools and equipment including beveling machines, cut-off grinders, hammers, torches, magnetic drills, welding machines, and a Saw-Zall.
  • Participate actively in a strong safety culture and recognize safety hazards and risks.
  • Attend onsite safety meetings and follow safety policies and procedures.
  • Be punctual and ready for work each day, displaying a positive attitude and teamwork.

Requirements

  • Must have at least 6 months of previous experience as a welder helper.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Must be able to meet all physical requirements of the job.

Nice-to-haves

  • Past exposure to different metals including carbon, stainless steel, and galvanized steel.
  • Experience in a gas plant construction environment.
  • Familiarity with all aspects of welding and their impact on the project.
