About the position

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today, SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars. The Welder position in McGregor, TX, involves working to build structural and/or fluid systems to support various testing campaigns in Central and South Texas. Welders will collaborate with an elite team of fabricators to rapidly build and weld large assemblies that will support rocket vehicle and component testing at our test sites. This role requires a commitment to quality and safety, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced environment where efficiency and precision are paramount. Welders will perform various welding processes, including FCAW, SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW, depending on the needs of the business. They will be responsible for welding different materials such as mild carbon steel, low alloy, stainless steel, aluminum, or exotics. Effective communication with management, engineering staff, and planners is essential to achieve build efficiency. Welders will also collaborate with lead welders to ensure that the proper weld procedure, type of material, and rod size are accurately assessed for each project. Analyzing engineering drawings and specifications will be necessary to plan welding operations, especially when procedural information is unavailable. Continuous improvement of operations, decreasing turnaround times, and streamlining work processes are key aspects of this role. In addition to welding assembly and fabrication on various structures, welders will check their work after completion to ensure it meets the required specifications. Handling and disposing of hazardous materials safely, as well as setting up safety equipment and work platforms at elevated heights, are also part of the job responsibilities.
